Notes: Not really happy with the wasp photo--those suckers are quick, though, and this was the best of the lot.

Great Golden Digger Wasp II
The Great Golden Digger Wasp is so known because of the short golden hairs around the head and thorax. While the adult feeds only on nectar, the larva dine on crickets and grasshoppers, which are captured and paralyzed by the adult females, then stuffed alive into underground tunnels to await their fate at the hands, well....mouths, of the wasp's offspring.

Notes: Mesodon, like all snails, is hermaphroditic. When it is time to mate, two snails will line up beside each other, then jab the one across from them with a arrow-like penis.
I suspect the dove fell out a of nest--he's still unable to fly, attempting to get away from the Ngnat and mysef by walking awkwardly along the bank of the hill behind the house. I eventually picked him up and moved him to the woods, where he'll be less like to attract attention from the cats.

Notes: Leafhoppers often discharge a clear fluid known as honeydew from their anus that attracts other insects, particularly ants. The ants drink the honeydew and leave the insect alone.
